Label Design

Whether using your own designer or ours, all great labels start with great design. As printers, we are able to recommend the best print technologies and label effects to make any design it's best. Our in-house designer can act as liaison, speaking the same language as your designer and taking direction from them. Or, help generate fresh ideas and designs concepts while working directly with the client. We are printers that live and breath creativity!

3D Virtual Proofing

We've taken proofing to the next level. By using state of the art software and settings of our presses, your label artwork is now able to be rendered into a three-dimentional image that allows you and your team to view how the finished label will look on the bottle down to every detail. To use, simply open the prepared file we create for you in Quicktime, then move the bottle around just as your buyers will. See how the foil reflects the light, how the embossing will set off certian text, and how your chosen paper effects the overall design. This next generation of proofing is incredibly accurate, saving downtime for press checks and eliminating costly design mistakes.

Prepress

Art Files

Adobe Illustrator files are preferred, in most cases the pre press needs of labels require the ability to edit within vector software. We use the latest versions of the Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design and Acrobat) and update regularly as new versions become available. We are able to import vector art into Illustrator from most of these programs.

Text

For conventional printing, (offset and flexography), we do not recommend printing text as a process build, since it requires the precise registration of four colors at once. If text must be in process colors, limit the color build to two of the process colors. We accept outline and live copy. Keeping text live and providing the fonts will aid in future edits if they are needed.

Images

Four color process, Duotone or Grayscale

For flexographic and digitally printed labels, build images with 300 ppi (pixels per inch) at print size. For offset printed labels, 500 ppi is preferred. If the print method has not yet been chosen it is best to build images at the higher 500 ppi. Please be aware if submitting final art in PDF format, most Adobe presets will down sample images in order to decrease the file size. Therefore we recommend using “Illustrator Default” when submitting final art. “High Quality Print”, “Press Quality”, and the PDF X series will down sample to 300 ppi. Please convert RGB images to CMYK using “SWOP v2 20%”.

Bitmap images

Please save Bitmap images at 1200 ppi. Convert grayscale images to bitmap output using the 50% threshold method. Other methods, (Pattern Dither, Diffusion Dither, Halftone Screen and Custom Pattern), result in a screened file, which can cause Moiré when processed through a RIP. A screened bitmap image is not adjustable for dot gain. If this conversion is for colorizing to a grayscale image, please provide the image in grayscale mode and we will colorize it.

Supplying Art

Send art files under 10mb by email to art@vintage99.com. Send files over 10mb by clicking the Upload Artwork link below. Please keep your color settings set to CMYK with US pre-press defaults (SWOPv2 20%). This is the most accurate representation of what your artwork will look like from screen to press.
